Rustic Wedding Decor Inspiration

With fall wedding season in full force and brides planning their spring/summer weddings (hello Facebook feed), I figured I'd post some pictures from my wedding to hopefully inspire other brides out there!

For our wedding I was going for a really simple, rustic and comfortable feel. We got married in the same church as my grandparents, aunt and parents at a cute little church in Lyme, Connecticut so it already had that cozy feel. The church looks like something out of a magazine and gives off that New England vibe that I grew up in and I love it. Our colors were royal blue and light blue with a rustic theme mixed with burlap and lace. For the church doors, my friend Jenn made some initial wreaths that I thought were perfect for our rustic feel.

Right when you enter the church we had two tables- our guestbook table to the right and a table to the left where I had handwritten the dates/times my family was married in the exact church so those who didn't know would find out just how special it was for us. I didn't want a standard guestbook I place in a bookshelf and never look at- instead I wanted something we could display in our home to see messages from our loved ones.

I kept our decorations fairly simple for the ceremony with a few flower arrangements and candles lit throughout the church. How beautiful is the inside of the church? I thought the walls matched our color theme perfectly.

I love the picture above with all of our family/friends outside of the church- such a cool idea!

For the reception, I still kept it simple and rustic but with a little more decor. My friend Jenn let us borrow this beautiful wooden pallet sign that says "You Have My Whole Heart My Whole Life" to display on the favor table. My sister Kim made our beautiful favors- cookie mix in adorable mason jars- was the perfect addition to the New England/rustic vibe! Our card box was handmade by Jenn as well. For our place cards, I found some key tags at Michael's and some antique scrapbook keys that I thought would add to the rustic theme. My dad took calligraphy courses and wrote our guests names.

I wanted our cake to match our theme so we had a rustic looking cake with some blue flowers all over. It was white cake with raspberry filling and butter cream frosting. It was the most delicious cake I've ever had in my entire life!

Want a money-saving bridal tip? Instead up up-lighting which can cost a few thousand dollars, ask your venue if they can install colored light bulbs for the event to still give off the colored glow effect. Our venue was nice enough to allow us to have blue lights where they had colorless ones to give it a blue effect.

Did I mention I cheers-ed with the wrong glass? That's what lack of sleep and anxiety will do you! Note to self- learn to distinguish different glasses at the next formal event I attend! Sheesh.

I know wedding planning can be a hectic time, but just remember your day isn't about all of the little details. It's about marrying the love of your life and sharing your special day with loved ones. I didn't have a wedding planner so things were very stressful in certain areas but it all worked out in the end and we had a beautiful ceremony and an awesome reception where we all danced for hours. I hope I was able to inspire you upcoming brides out there!

If you're looking for some personal rustic designs/touches for your wedding day, contact Jenn Poland from J. Poland Designs. She'll work with your budget and is truly professional. I highly recommend!

  4. We recently had our wedding at this place, and we couldn't have been happier. We had a particular vision for our wedding, and we were given just that. Chicago Wedding Venues has a unique space, with an incredible view. Highly recommended!
