Worth the Hype? | Benefit's The POREfessional

Realizing I don't have many high-end products in my almost-entirely-drugstore-makeup-collection, I figured I'd purchase a sample of one of the most talked about primers in the past year or so- Benefit's The POREfessional.

I was in line to check out at Ulta the other day and was stopped by those pesky but oh-so-beautiful sample-sized displays by the checkout and I was in love! I must have spent 10 minutes looking through the samples because:

A. They're the cutest little packaged things ever
B. They're cheaper than the full-sized product
C. I wanted to

So, needless to say, I saw the POREfessional and had to pick it up to see if it's worth the hype. At $10 for 0.25 fl. oz., I had some high hopes, people. Some high hopes.

This product claims to do something I've not yet seen in any drugstore primer- minimize the appearance of fine lines and pores. That's a major claim, considering I have huge pores that you could practically dive into and take a swim with how oily my skin is (I sound so attractive yet again- my apologies). I usually steer clear of silicone primers because they tend to make my face even more oily, but I was so intrigued by this product with its great reviews.

When you first apply, it has a silky feel and a flesh-toned tint which becomes transparent once applied.
So how do I feel about it? I'm neutral on this product. I certainly don't hate it, but I wouldn't say I love it either. While it doesn't blur or minimize my pores, it does provide a great base for my makeup. My makeup is easier than ever to apply with a foundation brush and I don't find myself reaching for my makeup sponge nearly as often for that desired "non-streaky" look that a brush can leave if there's not a good base to your skin. Overall, I'm 50/50 with this product. I'm disappointed it didn't minimize my pores like it claims, but it gave me a good canvas to apply the rest of my makeup.

The full size is $31 (eek!) for 0.75 fl. oz. which is twice the price of my foundation. If the price weren't so high I would consider reaching for another when I run out, but because of the price I will not be repurchasing.

Have you tried this product? If so, let me know your thoughts below!

  2. I'm not a huge fan of the pore-fessional. My favorite high end primer is the Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer. I've only ever used deluxe sample sizes because it is so expensive, but it is absolutely amazing. If you're ever in a Sephora, you should get a sample. I have very oily skin and it helps the makeup stay on longer and go on smoother. Have you tried the L'Oreal Infallible setting spray? That really helps my foundation stay on longer with my oily skin.

    1. Everyone keeps talking about the Hourglass primer! Is it comparable in price to the POREfessional? I'm in the market for a new primer... will have to check it out! Also want to try the Infallible setting spray!

    2. The .33 oz costs $18, 1 oz costs $52 and the 2 oz jumbo size costs $72. I really enjoy it, so whenever I order from Sephora and they have a sample of it I always get it.
