My Current Haircare Routine

Happy Tuesday, my loves! I've been getting some questions recently on how I've improved the health of my hair so I figured I'd create a quick post on my current haircare routine. I've made a major change lately in my cleansing routine that took some getting used to, but I'm in love! Also, I've been trying a new hair oil that has worked wonders on restoring my hair and has even made it thicker.

I have extremely oily hair, but over the past year I've "trained" my hair to reduce the amount of oils produced by washing every other day, which has also helped the overall health of my hair because I'm not stripping the natural and essential oils daily. Also, I've stopped using conditioner in the shower after shampooing. Wait, what? I know, that sounds so weird, but I've never felt that conditioners (including the organic ones) made a difference in the health and feel of my hair. I recently discovered apple cider vinegar as a natural hair rinse following shampoo and it has worked wonders!

The picture on the left was taken three months ago before I ever tried the apple cider vinegar rinses. Fast forward to the picture on the right (both from my hair growth series, "Let it Grow") taken just a week ago, you can clearly tell the difference in shine. My hair feels so much healthier and stronger. Okay, great, but what are the benefits of using apple cider vinegar on hair?
  • Combats tangles
  • Balances pH
  • Clarifies hair (removing product buildup)
  • Reduces frizz
  • Seals hair cuticle
  • Conditions hair
  • Prevents split ends

For the apple cider vinegar rinse, I take equal parts tap water and Bragg Organic Apple Cider Vinegar and combine in a travel-sized spray bottle that I've labeled "apple cider vinegar rinse" and keep in the shower. Now, I'm not going to lie- the smell is horrible. I usually hold my nose and breathe from my mouth to avoid inhaling too much, but the benefits of this rinse outweigh the smell. Following shampooing, I spray it liberally all over my hair, including my scalp, and leave it on for 3-5 minutes (it's normal if your scalp tingles- it's stimulating hair growth). I then rinse it for a minute, making sure to get all of the vinegar out. After you dry and style your hair you'll be able to tell an immediate difference in your hair. It'll be so much shiner, soft to the touch and will feel the cleanest it's ever felt! And yes, the smell goes away once your hair is completely dry.

In addition to using apple cider vinegar, I've also discovered Monat Global Rejuveniqe Oil Intensive* which has become a must-have in my hair care and daily beauty routine. It includes a blend of unique molecular ingredients including antioxidants, omega-6 fatty acids, vitamins and minerals.

Not only does it make your hair feel so soft and manageable, it aids in repairing the hair, adding volume and reduces hair thinning. I also use this daily following cleansing my face despite the fact that I have oily skin. In the harsh winter months, my skin tends to get dry patches around my nose and chin. This oil alleviates dehydration and replenishes skin by absorbing quickly and completely. All of my fellow sensitive skin peeps, don't worry- the formulation is gentle enough for sensitive skin! The oil is super lightweight and also has an amazing scent that reminds me of lemons. Who doesn't want to smell of citrus all day- there's worse scents out there! Actually, lemon-scented things are my favorite! My hair care routine only consists of shampooing, apple cider vinegar rinses and this hair oil. Pretty simple, right? Less is more, and I'm really starting to learn that after being a hair product junkie for so many years.

Have you tried apple cider vinegar rinses before? Have you tried Monat Global Rejuveniqe Oil Intensive before? If so, let me know in the comments below!
