The Power of Retinol

Oily skin, acne, huge pores, premature wrinkles- I've got it all. If it's a skincare concern or problem, odds are I have it. My skin has been through it all, and although they say acne diminishes as you get older, that couldn't be further from the truth, unless you're Regina George and everything is perfect for you. For the average woman, acne sticks around your entire life and if you suffer from super oily skin, you're bound to have it the rest of your life.

Feeling depressed after reading that? Don't be! There's tons of creams and serums out there that can help control your oils and help fight wrinkles. There's one serum that can do it all: control oils, fight acne, wrinkles and shrink pores and that's retinol. Retinol is a form of vitamin A which is proven to help fight the signs of aging. Along with diminishing fine lines and deeper wrinkles, retinol can lighten dark spots, clear pores to reduce and fight acne and stimulate collagen.

My favorite retinol serum is Valentia's Night Revive Retinol Serum* because not only does it contain retinol, but it also contains vitamins C and E to condition and hydrate the skin. Valentia's products are made the USA, are cruelty free and are made my natural ingredients, so I know I'm only putting the best of the best on my skin! To learn more about this brand, click here.

After cleaning my skin I take a pea-sized amount and rub onto my entire face (being sure to avoid my eyes) and another pea-sized amount for my neck and chest. After that sinks in, I follow up with my regular moisturizers. Most likely, your skin will become red at first as it adapts to the retinol which can sometimes be drying and can cause peeling. If you notice redness and peeling, switch to using this product every 2-3 days. I've found that using this serum every two days works best for my skin.

*Product c/o Valentia. As always, all opinions are 100% my own and I would never recommend a product to my readers I didn't fully enjoy.

Have you incorporated retinol into your skincare routine? Which products are your favorite?
