How To: Natural Contour & Highlight

Hi, beauties! I apologize for the lack of posts the last couple of weeks; I've been focusing on spending time with my family and got caught up in last minute holiday stuff! Oh how I've missed writing! Have you checked out my YouTube channel? I've been posting weekly vlogs and a few other tutorials so make sure to subscribe!

In today's post I'm sharing my natural contour and highlighting routine using affordable products! If you're like me and want that naturally defined and glowy look without sharp contours and highlights, follow along! To contour and highlight you'll need a few products: a contour shade, highlighter, a fluffy angled brush and a smaller brush for contouring.

First, choose your contour shade. Contouring works best with a cool-toned taupe shade that's a few shades darker than your skin tone - never use a warm bronzer to contour. My favorite high-end bronzer for contouring is Benefit's Hoola Bronzer; it's a versatile matte powder that works on every skin tone!

For more affordable options I recommend e.l.f. Cosmetics Bronzing Powder in Cool and Wet n Wild's MegaGlo Contouring Palette in Dulche De Leche. These are both under $5 and in my opinion are just as good if not better than Benefit's Hoola.

Choose your highlighter - do you prefer golden, warm, cool, sparkly or glittery highlighters? For an everyday natural look I prefer MAC's Mineralize Skinfinish in Soft & Gentle! I got mine for half price a couple of years ago and use a little bit at a time so I'll basically be using this until I'm 90 and stop highlighting. I guess you can say that's getting my money's worth?

For brushes you'll need a fluffy angled brush and a smaller brush for contouring (you can use one brush for both, but I prefer to keep them separate). For contouring I love BH Cosmetic's Angled Contour brush (I'm using an older one from a set but this links to basically the same brush). For highlighting I prefer to use a big crease brush- I'm using BH Cosmetics' Blending Brush (again, I'm using an older one but this links to a similar one).

You've got your products, now what? CONTOUR! It's super simple - just take your contouring brush, dip it into your contouring powder and define your cheekbones, temples and forehead and jawline. How do you know where to apply the powder on your cheekbones? Make a fish face and you'll see a faint hollow point - just drag your brush along this line being sure to keep the product behind your nose - don't drag it out any further. Oh, and making this super sexy face is a requirement.

Next step, Highlighting! This is so easy! Dip your highlighting brush into your highlighter and gently apply the product to the apples of your cheek, around your eye, tip of your nose and cupids bow (the area right above your upper lip).

Now you'll be a contouring and highlighting pro! For a full tutorial, watch my video below!

Have a very Merry Christmas! Do you have any fun plans?
