Cult Favorite Tested: L'Oreal True Match

When it comes to foundation, I refuse to drop mega bucks on something high-end when I can find something at the drugstore for half the price. If both a high-end and drugstore foundation contain the same ingredients then mama's gonna save some money, ya feel?

I've tried SO many foundations from the drugstore and haven't found that holy grail, ride or die favorite yet. I've heard so many great things about L'Oreal True Match and decided to give it a try. Of course I picked it up in the shade C2 Natural Ivory because #fairskin. Here's a little info about this foundation and its claims:

    • $7-$9
    • A shade for every skin tone
    • Non-cakey
    • Oil-free
    • Light to medium coverage
    • Radiant, flawless looking skin

Finding my perfect shade was super easy. [HINT: once you identify your skin's undertone, choose a shade by placing the bottle next to the underside of your wrist under good lighting. This will ensure you choose the closest match to your skin tone.] I agree with the claim that its formula is non-cakey and provides a light coverage (I definitely wouldn't say medium). While it did give some radiance to my skin, my skin definitely didn't look flawless. It clung to my dry patches and texture along my cheeks and make me look greasy after just a couple of hours. It also broke up around my cheeks, nose and forehead.

I've tested this foundation for one week applying it with both a foundation brush and sponge and I just can't understand all of the hype surrounding it. It did nothing for my combo/oily skin and emphasized my texture and pores. While I do enjoy that the product is oil-free and give the skin a nice glow, I just couldn't bring myself to keep it. I returned it to Target yesterday (oh, and also shopped around, duh because it's Target).

Have you tried this foundation? Did you like it? Am I the only person on the planet who didn't enjoy it?
